Welcome to Your Italian Odyssey

2028

Dear Colby, Tegan and Kelly

Here’s what I heard. What I'm thinking. What comes next.

I've now had the privilege of speaking with each of you, and I want to say — before anything else — what a genuine joy these conversations were. Three sisters, three different people, and yet when I sit with my notes and look at what you each told me independently, the picture that emerges is remarkably clear.

This is my way of reflecting that back to you. I want you to read this and feel seen — and to correct me if I've got anything wrong, or you’ve since had an idea or inspiration. We have time, and this is a collaboration. I want you all to feel comfortable in sharing your dreams and desires for this special journey you will take together.  Once you've had a chance to sit with it, let me know your thoughts.

What This Trip Actually Is

Italy is the destination. But that's not really what this trip is about.

What I heard — consistently, from all three of you, without any of you knowing the others had said the same thing — is that this is about time. Uninterrupted, undistracted, nowhere-to-be time together. The kind that doesn't happen in ordinary life.

Long lunches that run into the evening. Walking down a street with no particular agenda. Sitting somewhere beautiful and just being present with each other.

I won’t design an itinerary for you that will be cramming in sights for the sake of it. Every choice I make will be in service of that feeling.

What You Told Me

Here is what I heard across all three conversations. Please tell me if anything doesn't sit right.

The Non-Negotiables

Move slowly. Three or four bases in Italy, not ten. Time to go deep rather than wide. You've all said some version of: I don't want to be on a bus getting somewhere new every day. Neither do I.

Shoulder season. Warmer months — sun on your face, a pretty dress, an evening outside without a puffer jacket. Not the peak summer madness, but not cold either. We're looking at late May through June, or September into early October. With those windows in mind please let me know if there are any dates off the table.

Private transfers throughout. No coaches. No trains. Someone with your name on a sign when you land, and a driver who knows the roads between your destinations. Between three people, this is both affordable and genuinely elevating — no one has to be in charge, no one has to navigate, you just arrive.

Character over category. You're not looking for five-star for its own sake. You want somewhere with soul — old windows, a view, somewhere that feels like it belongs to Italy. Clean, safe, well-located, and worth remembering. No chains. No backpackers. Something in between that suits the amount of time in the room and the activities you will experience in each destination.

Sharing is fine (where possible). All three of you told me independently that you're open to — actually looking forward to — sharing rooms. The three-week slumber party. Where it makes sense, a triple configuration or a self-contained apartment with a couple of bedrooms will keep budget working for us and the intimacy working for you.

Food as the thread. You're all foodies and enjoy most of all the experience of enjoying that together. Leisurely over time. A cooking class somewhere, markets, long lunches, a glass of something local in a piazza. Time to slow down. Exhale. Enjoy each and every mouthful and moment.

Space for serendipity. Not every hour accounted for. Some days full and exciting, some mornings where you get out of bed when you want and see what finds you. In my personal opinion, the best moments in travel are usually the ones you didn't plan.

What Comes Next

A few things I need from you before I can build the itinerary properly:

Timing. I have a working sense of the season, but I need to know which school-holiday windows to avoid, and whether there are any dates that are completely off the table. Once I have that, I can start looking at what availability and rates look like.

Anything I missed? Talk to each other about it. If something doesn't match what you were imagining,

Once I have those pieces, I'll begin the truly exciting bit of planning. I'll come back to you with an initial itinerary — destinations, properties, experiences, and costings (as best I can so far out)— and we'll go from there together.

with so much excitement,

Tess
